WEATHERFORD PERFORATION TEST
WEATHERFORD ARTIFICIAL LIFT SYSTEMS, LAFAYETTE, LOUISIANNA,
1998
A DUOLINE 20 lined 3-1/2" tubing joint was run in a
test well, and perforated using a jet charge type perforator
to analyze any potential liner damage caused by the perforating
process. A pack-off was set in the tubing joint to allow pressurizing
the tubing to 500 psi with water during the first shot. The
second charge was set off while the tubing was dry and had
no pressure. It was concluded that the perforation done under
pressure with water caused little or no disturbance to the
liner outside the perforated hole. The perforation made while
the tubing was dry and at ambient pressure caused significant
damage and unraveling of the fibreglass around the perforation.
In addition, it was concluded that neither perforation caused
damage sufficient enough to obstruct any wireline maintenance
that might be required after the perforation.
